1st4sport Qualifications, in partnership with the Joint Angling Development Board (JADB), has developed qualifications in the Coaching of Angling. These qualifications replace the old governing body qualifications known as; the NFA / C25 Coarse Angling qualification; the NAC Sea Angling qualification; and the Salmon and Trout Association National Instructors Certificate. The new qualifications also replace the Professional Anglers Association scheme.

1st4sport is an awarding body created to work with partners in the Sport and Recreation industry to develop and gain accreditation for qualifications for the industry. Their work leads to a range of Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations vocationally related qualifications known as VRQ's and NVQ's.
1st4sport aims to provide a cost effective and quality assured qualification awarding service. It is one of the first awarding bodies to offer accredited Technical Certificates to support the new Sport Recreation and Allied Occupations Modern Apprenticeship framework.
This qualification has been developed to be delivered via a mixture of home study and tutor delivered theory and practical sessions. The taught element of the course is equal to 40+ hours, a further 50 hours of home study is required, comprising of assignments, logged coaching sessions, and independent assessments. A minimum total of 90 guided learning hours is required to complete the delivery of candidate activities.
Candidates must be over 18 years old before certification. Whilst candidates may be assessed in one or more of the three disciplines of angling - coarse, game or sea, a broad knowledge across angling would be considered beneficial.
The qualification is composed of four mandatory units of study. To qualify for the Level 2 Certificate candidates must successfully complete all four units.
Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling
Candidates will be assessed against the criteria of the qualification through a combination of internal and external assessment components.
The Level 2 Course will prepare candidates for Coach Licensing. To become a Licensed Coach candidate's must hold a Governing Body or 1st4sport qualification, and will be required to have met criteria set out by the JADB. To ensure that candidates who successfully complete the Level 2 Certificate in the Coaching of Angling are able to apply for a coaching license, the following additional modules of work are included in the programme of study.
