The British Disabled Angling Association does not believe in anyone creating access for the sake of it. Those fisheries that have a forward thinking and progressive view will make their facilities accessible because there are obvious benefits in attracting more members or day tickets, and investing in the future.
The Approved Fisheries Awards Scheme has been developed to encourage fisheries to improve facilities and so help encourage family angling. Somewhere good for a family is generally good for people with disabilities. There are actually few fisheries where a family would be able to enjoy a day out, whether or not this included a disabled family member.
The BDAA APPROVED FISHERIES AWARD SCHEME is launched with a number of inaugural Awards that are well deserved and have been identified as deserving in the course of the last year. These are Woodland View, Albrighton Trust, Teglan Fisheries, and Cwm Hedd Fishery. Each Award recipient receives a certificate and a plaque.
The Awards are all dated, so each is only as good as the date on which it is awarded, because achievement is never ending and improvements always possible. Each Award comes with a list of items which explains how the owner will keep the Award designation and, often with very little to do, how to continue to raise standards.
A BDAA Approved Fisheries Award carries either Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum status covering Not-for-Profit fisheries, Commercial fisheries, Club or Public waters.
