Group Award

British Disabled Angling Association

Sponsored by the Environment Agency

Terry Moseley and Rick Keeley received the award on behalf of the BDAA.

In just a few short years this organization has grown its membership significantly and established itself as a premier resource for fisheries, clubs and individuals, for government and governing bodies. Behind the success of this organization are a few important lessons for any group.

First there was an established and recognized need. There was no-one else providing a specialist service to a membership which was potentially huge. In Angling, it offered access to recreation for a whole new group of people who might never have entered or even thought about angling. Seeking to break down barriers, it hasn’t built any between the various disciplines of angling. It is amazingly accessible.

Second, there is enormous enthusiasm and dedication of the team involved in driving the organization forward.

Finally, it has lived largely within its very limited financial resource while at the same time being resourceful in achieving the practical.

This charity has provided a voice for people with disabilities and a way forward to making fishing ‘Inclusive’ as a recreation, in every sense of the word. It provides Education, Support, Advice & practical support to aid participation for both disabled and non-disabled to enjoy angling to the full.

In the year when disability was placed firmly on every organization’s agenda by government, the Group Award 2004, sponsored by the Environment Agency, was presented to the British Disabled Angling Association.
