The Dreamstore 2013 Individual Award recognizes someone who has done a great deal to promote and encourage fishing as an enjoyable pastime, and to encourage responsible participation among new enthusiasts. This year we have the opportunity to recognize someone who brings a personal mission to fishing.
Our 2013 Individual Award is presented to Ian Houlton.
Ian has innovated to initiate change and to share a passion. Over time he has taken knocks and set-backs. Despite this he remains committed to the value of angling to benefit social inclusion and community development. Ian has persevered and continues share his enthusiasm and love of fishing, positively promoting angling and serving others.
Ian is a graduate of Dreamstore Academy and his greatest passion is to convince people of the value of sea fishing as a source of food for the table – he also gardens, to complete the serving.
Based in Yeovil, he works with – among others – Dorset Visual Impairment Society, Rylands Wish (an Autism group), South Somerset Disability Forum, and from his military background a commitment to helping Help for Heroes and Combat Stress.
David Hoey, Dreamstore, comments:
“Ian is an outstanding example of the individual angler who simply wishes to make a difference, and is focused on the people he helps and what he needs to do to be able to support others. He uncomplicates angling to make it fun, and enjoyable, with a practical side in respect of placing food on the the table. His passion for sea-angling is infectious. He is a truly worthy individual. This Award is absolutely deserved.”
