Having tested the DEAZ at a Special Needs school, Dreamstore agreed to work with Get Hooked on Fishing Midlands at a mainstream school prior to moving to a full DEAZ pilot programme.

Rednal Junior School year 3 was invited to our indoor DEAZ, with an outdoor experience promised next summer term. The school wished to have the DEAZ as a means of building team and group identity among pupils who had just entered the new school environment.

News of the new Dreamstore Education Action Zone very quickly reached Kent. It was agreed with the British Disabled Angling Association, supported with Environment Agency funding, to explore the level of interest in Kent. In Birmingham the Wilson Stuart School is part of a wider school network of 40 special schools. There appeared to be no formal network in Kent. Dreamstore was offered the use of Turkey Mill near Maidstone which has the advantage of access to excellent private fishing waters.

At the first indoor DEAZ pupils were promised an experience outdoors in May. Years 4 and 5 and years 7 and 8 pupils were brought to Albrighton Moat near Wolverhampton, a special centre for people with disability that includes a fishing pond in addition to sensory gardens and activity hall.

Dreamstore had the idea for a schools project ever since the Dreamstore Fishing Action Zone at the NEC launched the charity to the angling public in February 2004. Two years of thinking and planning and we were ready to trial an education action zone in Spring 2006.
