Dreamstore has provided a wide range of Browning-ZEBCO equipment to Lymm High School for a new Angling Club. Eric Hazzard, a teacher at Lymm High School, has ten to fifteen Year 8 pupils meeting each Wednesday lunchtime for an Angling Club Hour – since Whit half term everyone has been taken angling in groups of 4/5 each Wednesday.

Dreamstore has been delighted to provide Halton Brook Children’s Centre some funding towards the Centre’s Fishing Club and a large range of Browning equipment. The first outing with the new equipment took place at Easter 2008.

Orri Vigfússon was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2007 Dreamstore Active Awards, supported by Bank of Scotland Corporate held at Chesford Grange, Warwickshire. Also presented Awards on the evening were Fishing4U, A Hastings Social Inclusion Award, Wessex Water, Best Business/Agency 2007, and South Staffs Angling For All for its work with disability groups in the region. Dreamstore Active Awards are unique in the angling world for focusing on the individuals and organisations generating making a difference for others.

In mid-July the BDAA organised a day for around 20 John Groom clients, offering them a first chance to try fishing as a recreational pastime. John Grooms Charity www.johngrooms.org.uk works to provide residential care and housing for disabled people, so they achieve greater independence, choice and freedom.

Dreamstore is pleased to be able to award a small grant to help The Nine Maidens Centre with the organisation of its angling activities. The money will go towards by purchasing the appropriate equipment and organising day trips sea fishing off the Cornish coast.

The Essex Association of Boys Clubs organised its first ever deep sea fishing trips in March 2007. Six young people and Keith Cranmer, a Boys Club officer, left from Bradwell and headed out into the North Sea. A second trip took place in April.

Young people at Castlepark Centre, Dundee, decided that going on a trout fishing trip and donating their catch to a local old people's group was an excellent way to promote citizenship within the community. The over-60's Tea Dance group at the Grey Lodge Settlement was delighted to accept the large rainbow trout from the budding young anglers.

Fun2Fish works with children and young adults who have learning difficulties and have often been excluded from mainstream schools in the Bournemouth area. The project has recently purchase a selection of Pike Fishing Tackle, made possible with a generous donation from Dreamstore UK. The 6 sets of Pike Fishing Tackle have been thoroughly tried and tested over the past couple of months.

Wilson Stuart School, Birmingham, has been an important partner in the development of the Dreamstore Education Action Zone. We asked the special needs school's art classes to design a Christmas Fish for Dreamstore for use on an e-card. Dreamstore chose a Christmas fish designed by Katharine, Year 11.2.

A donation of new sea angling rods and reels and life-preservers to the Priory Hall Youth Centre, Halstead, Essex, is a timely boost to engaging young people in positive use of leisure time. Six rods, with reels, rod rests, hooks and line were generously donated by Fladen Fishing, a leading supplier of sea angling equipment. Life-preservers have been donated by the charitable Dreamstore UK.

The British Disabled Angling Association is a poorly funded, but enormously important body which seeks to improve access to fishing for people with disabilities. It is involved in providing information and supporting facilities for people with disabilities throughout the UK. Dreamstore supported the BDAA with a small grant to keep open a stretch of the River Doon for the exclusive use of anglers who are disabled, providing an opportunity for a very special experience that would otherwise be out of reach to people with disabilities.

Neil Scarratt from Staffordshire is the lucky winner of the CUBA Competition which featured in the Environment Agency 2005 REEL LIFE magazine earlier this year. 37 year old Neil who usually fishes carp and pike is leaving Gatwick on the 3rd November for a fishing trip of a lifetime, along with his twin brother Kevin.

Fishing has proven to be a useful means to provide diversionary activity suitable for young people who are 'referred' by many official agencies. Dreamstore has provided a small grant to Get Hooked on Fishing to review its broader application as an aid to addressing social inclusion and to help develop its programmes for wider application. This review is principally sponsored by the Countryside Agency's Social Inclusion Unit and the Home Office's Positive Futures.

The ATA's National Fishing Week encourages angling participation for everyone by providing a focus for events during the last week in August. The 2005 National Fishing Week is supported by Dreamstore, which has provided a web based search facility to enable anyone to check out where to find their nearest event.

The Awards look to the huge efforts that bring enormous value to wider society through angling. The awards are not about the fish, equipment or celebrity.

Lord William's School Oxfordshire was awarded the Social Inclusion Award 2005 at the Dreamstore Active Awards evening held at Chesford Grange, Warwickshire. The Social Inclusion Award, sponsored by Dreamstore UK, is for the individual or group that has best encouraged social inclusion of alienated or disadvantaged individuals, singularly or in a group project, which has clearly defined and measured outcomes.

February 2005: A donation of new sea angling rods and reels and life-preservers to the North Wales Get Hooked on Fishing scheme is a welcome boost to engaging young people in positive use of leisure time. Twelve Steadfast II Silver Surf sea rods donated by leading manufacturer LEEDA and eight GUL life-preservers donated by the charitable Dreamstore were presented to the Get Hooked on Fishing supervising team at the Colwyn Bay Sea Angling Club.

Londonderry's Y.M.C.A. is an active organisation in community development in Londonderry. Along with the Y.M.C.A. Loughs Agency it plans to open a new programme of activities to encourage young people to take up fishing and to improve their awareness of the environment. However, to release significant government funding for the planned programmes they needed trained coaches to NVQ Level 2.
