Terry Middleton, the Secretary of the Halton Joint Anglers Association who helps with running the club on match days, says this is a wonderful catch for a young boy:
Ryan’s catch represents one of the top three record weights caught by any member of the Halton Joint Angling Club, junior or senior. We are all absolutely delighted for him. He won the monthly ‘Biggest Fish’ and ‘Heaviest Catch’ trophies. Well done Ryan.

New website for visually impaired anglers

Left to right Terry Harding, Dave Knowles (student), David Strong (student), Barry Morris (Lead Officer for Enrichment Support), Mark Fisher (AD residential support).
Dreamstore UK and the Royal National College for the Blind is delighted to be able to announce the launch of the RNC Angling Club at www.dreamstore.org/rncangling/
Dreamstore’s partnership with RNC arose when Barry Morris, Lead Officer for Enrichment Support, enrolled on the Dreamstore Academy at Pershore College to gain his Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling. Barry firmly believed in the value of angling as a recreational and therapeutic activity for students at the Royal National College. Dreamstore suggested that it would host a website where the experiences of Barry and the college students would be shared with others who might be interested in angling for the visually impaired.
The website is launched with a welcome page, a Frequently Asked Questions section, and a Visually Impaired Stories (VIstories)

Dreamstore helps SAFE include youngest youth club members

Desiree Elliot of Stoke Angling for Everyone thanks Dreamstore for its support in helping bridge a funding gap, allowing the youngest members of SAFE’s Youth Clubs to take part in all the activities. For a number of years, Stoke Angling for Everyone (SAFE) has organised two Junior Angling Youth Clubs in Stoke on Trent and obtained funding to support the activities of each. The Clubs were originally open to young people in the 13 – 19 age groups. At the same time SAFE’s general activities at local primary schools resulted in over 25 young people aged 9 – 12 yrs attending the clubs. For 2007, this had no additional financial implications for indoor activities, where the room hire is already funded and coaches are voluntary. Once the young people were taken outdoors, however, there were extra pressures on costs due to the increased numbers needing, for example, transport, entrance fees, and peg fees. Of course SAFE didn’t want to exclude the younger

Ben (right), aged 8 years old, with his dad Andy, who helps the young people whenever he is free to join the Halton Brook Children’s Centre Fishing Club team. Dreamstore has been delighted to provide Halton Brook Children’s Centre some funding towards the Centre’s Fishing Club and a large range of Browning equipment. The first outing with the new equipment took place at Easter 2008. The Centre approached Dreamstore to help its recently formed Fishing Club, as early starter sessions had proved hugely popular among young people and parents alike. The Centre hopes to use the Club to generate greater community cohesion in an area of considerable disadvantage. Mo Ball, a Community Development Worker at Halton Brook started to go fishing about eighteen months ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She says: During my work with parents in the community I started to talk about fishing and how enjoyable and relaxing it was. Some of the parents told me their children

In mid-July the BDAA organised a day for around 20 John Groom clients, offering them a first chance to try fishing as a recreational pastime. John Grooms Charity www.johngrooms.org.uk works to provide residential care and housing for disabled people, so they achieve greater independence, choice and freedom.Dreamstore was approached to support a Lifestyles Choices Project in Bedfordshire which aimed to develop a programme for disabled adults to become more involved in social, leisure, and educational activities outside their homes.Scott Richardson, Project Manager for Lifestyle Choices, commented on the day:“The terrific weather, well-stocked swims (at Manor Farm Fisheries) and expert guidance from Terry Moseley and his BDAA team of instructors made it a fantastic day for our clients, from whom I heard nothing but positive comments.Disabled fishing is an activity we would be very keen to develop, as our service encourages clients to engage (and ultimately independently continue)

Dreamstore is pleased to be able to award a small grant to help The Nine Maidens Centre with the organisation of its angling activities. The money will go towards by purchasing the appropriate equipment and organising day trips sea fishing off the Cornish coast. The Nine Maidens Centre (closed in summer 2007) supported programmes for children, and their families, who have extreme emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. The Centre aimed to keep young people 11-14 close to their families rather than boarding schools, providing lessons in the morning and then constructive leisure in the afternoons.Undertaking coarse and sea angling, the young people and families are now encouraged to join the local club which provides a positive environment which may not otherwise be available. One of the young people who took part in sea fishing activity,Lee, said of his day at sea:“I loved fishing on the day I caught a pollock, which was 1 lb. My mates caught loads of fish too, and James

Essex Association of Boys Clubs goes deep sea fishing

The Essex Association of Boys Clubs organised its first ever deep sea fishing trip in March 2007.Six young people and Keith Cranmer, a Boys Club officer, left from Bradwell and went out into the North Sea. The group fished off the Kingfisher, though due to weather conditions the boat stayed in the estuary rather than venturing out to sea. This did not spoil the enjoyment for the young people, particularly the youngest in the group, James Clasby, who caught the biggest cod of the day. Everyone caught fish, in total around twenty-five, mostly small codling, whiting, dogs and a couple of thornbacks.A second fishing trip took place a month later in April. This time the boat took the fishing party sixteen miles out from Bradwell. Over forty fish were caught and most were skate up to 12lbs. As well as dog fish, the young people also caught two good sized cod and two small whiting. Everything added up to another great day out, this time in perfect weather conditions.

Young people at the Castlepark Centre, Dundee, decided that going on a trout fishing trip and donating their catch to a local old people's group was an excellent way to promote citizenship within the community. A small grant for equipment and support to the project from Dreamstore UK enabled the creation of a Castlepark Fish Fest which took place at the local Kingennie fishery. The over 60's tea dance group based at The Grey Lodge Settlement was delighted to accept the large rainbow trout freshly caught that afternoon by the budding anglers from Castlepark Fishing Club.Grey Lodge Settlement director Alan Duncan commented on the project:This gesture helps promotes community spirit and lets adults see young people in a positive light by donating what the young people described as, in their words, 'Monster Fish'.Castlepark Community Education Worker Sandy McLeod said:The children at Castlepark have varying difficulties within their young lives which leads to at times them

New Fish4U UK Angling Event Finder open for everyone

Fish4u is a new web-based angling events finder which is open to coaches, Clubs, match organisers, angling groups, or anyone organising an angling event that is open to the public. The charitable Dreamstore UK has created the Fish4u facility to help people find out where to find an angling event, whether coarse, sea or game, closest to their home. Dreamstore says: We have provided the event search facility for National Fishing Week for the past three years, including 2006. Then we asked what happens for the rest of the year? One of the biggest barriers to angling participation is knowing where to start. So Dreamstore created a easy to use search facility and opened the organiser section to enable any event at any time of the year to be registered with Fish4u and promoted free of charge.Dreamstore has made the organiser registration process easy. And there are lots of backroom benefits, including useful downloads, and an organiser's forum where organisers have the opportunity to

Get Hooked on Fishing Trust

Fishing has proven to be a useful means to provide diversionary activity suitable for young people who are ’referred‘ by many official agencies. Dreamstore has provided a small grant to Get Hooked on Fishing to review its broader application as an aid to addressing social inclusion and to help develop its programmes for wider application. This review is principally sponsored by the Countryside Agency’s Social Inclusion Unit and the Home Office’s Positive Futures. “If we stop one young person offending and serving a custodial sentence, it may save as much as £100,000, whilst the saving in suffering to both victim and offender can not be calculated. Over three hundred young persons have been through Get Hooked on Fishing at Durham and many more in similar schemes around the country. Dreamstore has helped fund a review of how Get Hooked can be developed and expanded to make an even greater contribution to social inclusion.” His Honour Judge

National Fishing Week

The ATA's National Fishing Week encourages angling participation for everyone by providing a focus for events during the last week in August. The 2005 National Fishing Week is supported by Dreamstore, which has provided a web based search facility to enable anyone to check out where to find their nearest event. The SUPER SEARCH facility further enables those who rely on public transport or those with disability to find what locations are best suited to their needs. The early part of the year will see the ATA encourage organisers to list their events on the website, and a broader public campaign will begin mid-year to let people know where to find their local National Fishing Week event.
Y.M.C.A. (Londonderry)

Londonderry's Y.M.C.A. is an active organisation in community development in Londonderry. Along with the Y.M.C.A. Loughs Agency it plans to open a new programme of activities to encourage young people to take up fishing and to improve their awareness of the environment. However, to release significant government funding for the planned programmes they needed trained coaches to NVQ Level 2. Dreamstore's small seeding grant to the project has covered the cost of three NVQ courses and means that within a number of months a series of programmes will begin. Central to the programme schedule will be a rolling 10 week, four times a year course introducing kids from the North West to fishing. Without the modest grant from Dreamstore we would have been unable to unlock a wealth of funding opportunity which will enable us to engage young people and their parents in a series of programmes centred on fishing skills. We know this will create new friendships and contacts that will greatly

Dreamstore's Fishing Action Zone

Supported by the Environment Agency, Dreamstore helped create Dreamstore’s Fishing Action Zone at Go Fishing 2004. For the first time ever, many not-for-profit organisations were brought together in a single open space. The British Disabled Angling Association, Get Hooked on Fishing, Wheelyboat Trust, Eden River Trust and other members of the Association of River Trusts, along with the Salmon and Trout Association and the National Federation of Anglers development teams, all worked with a great spirit of co-operation and enthusiasm to create something accessible and fun for the public. National Fishing Week was launched on the central podium of the zone as was Sport Relief’s Fishing Megamatch. “Dreamstore has made an enormous difference in a short space of time. It has a focus and professional approach about how best to move forward. It has made people sit up and think positively about how to deliver the facilities needed to encourage greater participation in
