Regenerating near Bristol

A visit to Mike Robbins, Hartcliffe & Withywood Angling Club, which has for many years undertaken outstanding work with young people on housing estates in Bristol. Mike has provided outdoor diversionary and engagement through angling for young people who have little other way of getting out from the urban environment. He has also worked with disability groups from time to time.

Mike has often talked about having a dedicated water, and this year a local landowner offered a pond that hadn’t been fished in ten years for his exclusive use. This summer has seen lots of work being done to clear the bank and create safe accessible access to the water – though the dry summer conditions meant the water levels weren’t ideal.

A launch barbeque event was held, with residents of a local Leonard Cheshire home invited, along with the many who had supported the improvement to the pond and the work of the Angling Club through the years.

Dreamstore will be discussing with the Angling Club in the new year where we are able to enhance the value of the work at the pond. It is an exciting time for Mike and his team. A long-standing dream has been realised;  a tribute to Mike’s determination and vision.
