Priory Hall Youth Centre’s sea angling coach receives timely boost to new year activity

A donation of new sea angling rods and reels and life-preservers to the Priory Hall Youth Centre, Halstead, Essex, is a timely boost to engaging young people in positive use of leisure time. Six rods, with reels, rod rests, hooks and line were generously donated by Fladen Fishing, a leading supplier of sea angling equipment. Life-preservers have been donated by the charitable Dreamstore UK.
Ruth Murchie, resident youth worker at the Priory Hall Youth Centre attended the Dreamstore Academy during the summer and is well on her way to achieving a full Level 2 coaching qualification in sea angling. Meanwhile her plans for sea angling activity attached to the Youth Centre are being supported by a member of the ladies England Sea Angling Team.
Ruth says:
“The donation of the equipment by Fladen Fishing and Dreamstore UK is a huge boost to being able to engage young people in a positive pastime that is easily accessible. This is a new activity planned for early New Year 2006. We have made available six places to start, all of which have been snapped up. Its rare that we have a waiting list for activities, but we have one before we’ve even started this programme which augurs well for the future.”
A Dreamstore spokesman said:
“Dreamstore is keen to see anyone pick up a rod and use their recreational time constructively. We are very pleased to support Ruth’s work at Priory Hall Youth Centre because our experience elsewhere where angling has been used to engage with young people has shown positive benefit for everyone involved. Ultimately success will be judged on the difference it will make to the individual young people who join in the activity.”
