Angling alternative

Hartcliffe and Withywood Angling Club offers a scheme to divert young people, living in a deprived area of Bristol, away from anti-social behaviour, crime, drugs and alcohol misuse.  Through strict conduct and behaviour rules, the club helps young people, within the environment of fishing, to gain new skills, build confidence levels and engage positively with others. Since it was established in April 2007, the Cub has supported over 250 young people.

Money is tight for many voluntary organisations in the current economic climate. Dreamstore awarded a small grant to the Hartcliffe and Withywood Angling Club towards a Club fishing trip to Revels Fishery, Dorset.  The Club raised money, through voluntary activity and donations, to match Dreamstore’s contribution.

Places on the trip were offered to young people within the club on the basis of improved behavior over the previous year.  10 young people enjoyed the week in the very different environment of a fishery away from city pressures.  While there they also had the opportunity to try sea fishing.
