Dreamstore Day for voluntary sector engagement

The date for your diary is Saturday 26 March , and the place is Haydock Racecourse. The event is the 2011 Dreamstore Day, bringing together those engaged in the voluntary sector to share experiences and ideas on how angling can help build their activities.  Registration will be free for all those who are active in the voluntary sector with an interest in angling.

Disability awareness workshop, BDAA

The day will provide a series of seminars/workshops on aspects that are important to voluntary sector development, and will build on our first Dreamstore Day which was held at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium. We will post details as plans are confirmed.

With a new Equality Act we will certainly be looking at the impact on all aspects of angling and access for all, and bringing our Disability Awareness up to date. As well as organising other short presentations on the day, lunchtime will include the presentation of the annual Dreamstore Active Awards.

Dreamstore Days are our way of showing commitment to continuing development of people skills for volunteers who work with young people and community based organisations.

We have just completed our first Scottish Dreamstore Day, in association with Angling for Youth Development (AFYD) which took place on Sunday 16th January in Perth. Around 30 attended from all over Scotland. Most attending worked with AFYD, but there were also many who work on independent community programmes or who have completed the Dreamstore Academy SQA Level 2 coaching course.

Our thanks to Dyslexia Scotland for recommending Linda Kerr who made an excellent presentation on recognising dyslexia and helpful hints on addressing dyslexia in any learning environment. Thanks too to Ray Unsworth,  who talked about the role and expectations of ‘mentoring’ – a role many in the voluntary sector find themselves taking on unexpectedly. The afternoon session provided a guide to using media to promote your local group, presented by David Hoey of Dreamstore and marketing and media management company Sandelford.
